BELOIT – A relatively new show is using modern viewing formats to build on an old idea.

Brian Morello, who runs the Gustafson Center for Entrepreneurship for Beloit College, pointed to Bob Harrer who used to have a show called “Builders of Beloit” which he hosted for 20 years starting in 1995. Morello said Harrer had some great interviews on that show.

“We’ve been working with the (City of Beloit) for years, running the public access TV station, and we have all this equipment,” Morello said. “We want to give (Beloit College students) as many reps as we can with the media so we came up with the idea of doing a behind the scenes that features primarily municipal government employees talking about how things get done in Beloit.”

Morello’s “Behind Beloit❞ show had its pilot episode seven months ago, featuring Morello and former Beloit City Manager now turned media gadfly Jerry Gabrielatos. The show also has gone “behind the scenes” on athletics, including featuring Beloit Sky Carp employees and officials and athletes from Beloit College and area high schools, and also has included nonprofits such as Marc Perry, executive director of Community Action Inc.

Season two started in September. Morello said the goal is to produce 13 shows a semester, basically following the Beloit College calendar since the production crew is made up of students or recent graduates.

He recruited Beloit College Chief of Staff and Secretary Ellie Anderbyrne to be the host. Anderbyrne has been with the college for nearly 13 years, but her career expertise leans more toward research and data than talk show talking head.
