BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) – Governor Tony Evers spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the downtown Beloit riverwalk extension Tuesday.

The year-long project demolished a vacant building that extended over the Rock River, opening up space for boaters on the water and a new riverside path.

“It’s a great new extension to the path that’s already here along the river that makes connections all the way to the state line,” said Jeff Johnson, a Beloit resident and bicycler. ”It’s just part of the whole process of making Beloit more bike and pedestrian friendly.”

The extension, off of East Grand Avenue, was a public-private collaboration between the City of Beloit, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the project developer, Hendricks Commercial Properties.
